SEED Semester
Student Engagement and Experiential Discovers (SEED) is a set of courses that are completed off campus at Penn State's environmental center Shaver's Creek. During the semester students learn practical outdoor education skills, interpretation, park management, as well as skills in design. These skills are learned by creating programs for school field trips such as learning about the watershed or learning about the importance of holes in trees. After creating the lesson plans student actually get to run the field trips. Students also learn valuable lessons in becoming a naturalist and an environmental interpreter by creating field walks and vastly expanding their knowledge of the natural world. In the spring of 2022 I was fortunate enough to participate in this course. The lessons I learned and love the natural world that this semester fostered are invaluable experiences that I will carry with me for the rest of my career.
